This Blue Superfood is Taking Over Perth FoodBy Ella LiascosApril 9, 2021 Share Cue the blue-dah-bah-di song, because blue food has made its way to Perth. First there was green matcha latte’s, then yellow turmeric, then pink beetroot, and now blue Mermaid latte’s exist, or Blue Majik latte’s as they’re also known as. Blue Majik, is the nickname for a naturally blue variety of spirulina powder. Much pricier than green spirulina, Blue Majik costs $60 for a mere 50 grams on Amazon, so what’s all the fuss about? According to Maggie Moon, author of The MIND diet, “naturally blue foods have a health halo, think of blueberries or purple potatoes.” So does blue spirulina live up to the halo effect? Well, it’s packed with B vitamins, minerals and a high dose of protein, plus it gets its beautiful light-blue hue from the C-phycocyanin; an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant form of protein. But it’s not all mermaids and unicorns. Blue-green algae is technically a form of bacteria, so it won’t go down a treat for those with sensitive stomach’s says Shape.com “if your body isn’t loving the trend as much as the internet is, it’s definitely okay to skip this one” and move onto Matcha instead. If you’re game to try it for yourself, here’s a couple of places you’ll find it in Perth: Pearth Organic Kitchen West Leederville Prescribing to no particular diet, yet catering to everyone Pearth Organic Kitchen do a bright blue breakfast bowl topped with granola on their brekky menu.
