If you’re stumped for things to do on the summer school holiday’s that you’ll enjoy too, this list is for you. From free outdoor activities, paddle boarding lessons, to trampoline stadiums and strawberry picking in Wanneroo, we’ve thought of it all so you don’t have to. Here’s our top 16 picks of things to do this summer holidays:

  1. Walk the Lotterywest Federation Trail among the treetops in Kings Park. Let the kids run free at Ivey Watson playground after a while you enjoy lunch at sticky beaks café.
  2. Hang out at Leighton beach while the kids learn how to maneuver and catch waves with a paddle board with Elemental SUP. These lessons will give them the confidence to keep up with you in the open ocean.
  3. Head to Rockface in Northbridge for some indoor rock climbing. They do kids climbing classes every Saturday from age 7 to 12 years old.
  4. The tranquil Heathcoat Reserve has plenty of shady areas to picnic in and a large wooden pirate ship playground that the kids can play on. There’s also a kiosk nearby for coffee too.
  5. The Cockburn Ice Arena teach the little one’s (as young as 5) how to ice skate. Mum’s that are into skating can hire their own and speed around the arena while the kids learn for themselves.
  6. When it’s time to chill at home, there’s indulgent, yet deceivingly healthy vegan snacks, cakes and slices that the kids will love to make and eat. Try this vegan chocolate cake with salted pretzels and peanut butter icing.
  7. The Galaxy Drive in Theatre is the ultimate evening activity with the kids. Snacks, drinks, blankets and pillows are a must.
  8. For families obsessed with watersports, the school holidays are a perfect opportunity to get your little adventurous into a new hobby. Sailing is a great lifelong skill that you can do together and the Fremantle Sailing Club offers kids programs during the holidays.
  9. Black Diamond Lake is an impossibly light blue body of water just a couple of hours north of Perth. It’s a great day trip or overnight camping spot. We recommend bringing snacks, lots of water and some pool floats.
  10. Alternatively, Serpentine National Park has multiple walk trails of different levels to warm up with. Kids can spot grey kangaroos on the journey and it’s also worth preparing with a picnic, towels and bathers to jump in the Serpentine Falls
  11. If your kids are thrill seeking, the novel value of this Flying Trapeze in Alfred Cove might do the trick. Suitable for little ones from aged six, there’s also a big park to run, walk the dog, and picnic in, if you’d prefer not to get on the trapeze yourself.
  12. For really little ones, Rainbow Park is the perfect picnic spot to relax in while the kids splash around for hours at this free and shaded water park.
  13. Waterman’s Bay is the ultimate family spot, with playgrounds, a nearby pizza joint and a great snorkeling reef. Waves are on the smaller side too, which means the kids can play around safely in the water.
  14. The perfect park for running, walking, or picnicking, Hyde Park also offers a range of different playgrounds, including a water park, swings and lots of things to climb on.
  15. Head to the East Street Jetty on a Monday night for Food Trucks Under the Bridge — they have lots of kid and adult friendly food of both the healthy and not-so-healthy variety. There’s Mexican ice lollies from La Paleta and curly fries from Gary’s diner and healthier stuff at Eat No Evil. If you’ve got the gear, it also makes for a great little fishing spot to keep them entertained for hours.
  16. Just a couple of hours north of Perth, Coco’s farm in Wanneroo lets you pick and the kids pick strawberries ‘til your hearts content. Wanneroo is also home to Just Jump parkour and trampoline stadium. Adults can enjoy box fit or fitness classes while the kids go crazy on the trampolines.
