First up, briefly tell us a bit about yourself and what you do!

Hi, I’m Tamara of Tamara Yoga in Claremont and Bibra Lake, Perth. I teach Yoga, Yoga Teacher Training, Yoga Retreats, workshops, private classes and Marma sessions (an Ayurvedic healing treatment). I’m writing a book (or three) as well as mentoring our trainees and teachers. And I look after our studios – we have 50 classes a week running and 30 TY teachers.

What time do you wake up most days and how many hours of sleep do you aim for?

I love sleep! Good sleep is really important and I get at least 8 hours a night. I have a pretty varied routine depending on the day but I get up around 6:30am most days.

What’s your morning routine to set you up for a great day?

I wake up and meditate. Then I’ll attend to some work or writing for my book and I find this quiet time in the morning is a good space to be creative and to plan as well. I often have early private classes with students so I’ll take some time to set up for those too.

Describe a typical day of eating for you.

I don’t eat a big breakfast, I’m never that hungry then. I start the day with lemon juice and warm water. Green drink. And coffee. I’ve just started drinking coffee and I love it! Now I see what all the fuss was about.

Lunch is my favourite, and I never miss it. Even if I have to squeeze it in around teaching, teacher training and private classes, I make sure I do. I usually eat a big lunch. In winter I love warm food like curry or bone broth. I like Japanese food too and there’s a great fish shop near my Claremont studio that has the best fresh sushi and octopus and seaweed salads that are delicious and nutritious.

My kids joke that when I used to pick them up from school, we’d have dinner straight afterwards. And it’s not too far from the truth. Lol I do like having dinner early. I think it’s better for sleeping to not eat too close to bedtime.

Do you take any supplements, vitamins or special wellness elixirs? If so, we’d love to know!

I drink WelleCo Super Elixir Greens most mornings and coconut oil, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, curcumin, and multivitamins recommended to me by my doctor. I’ve read coffee is good for the microbiome in your gut and your brain, so hahaha that’s one of my wellness elixirs!

Do you have an evening wind-down ritual?

I turn down the lights and light the candles. I have my laptop set so the light dims from 6pm. I need to do this otherwise I stay up too late working. I love getting all snuggled up in the evenings.

What are your top 3 wellness non-negotiables?

Yoga. Meditation. Family.

Your absolute favourite healthy cafe in Perth is?

Vans Café in Cottesloe.

Best place to get a green juice or smoothie in your city?

Kirkwood Deli in Cottesloe.

Favourite farmers market or healthy place to shop?

South Fremantle Farmers Market.

What’s your fitness routine & favourite way to get sweaty and where’s your go-to?

I’ve never been to a gym and don’t like running. Yoga is my one-and-only total go-to mind body spirit workout.

If you could only wear one brand of activewear for the rest of your life it would be…

Having our own Tamara Yoga Shop and teaching every day means I get to wear a LOT of activewear. It would be very hard to narrow it down, but if I had to, I’d say my faves are Onzie + Cotton Citizen.

What’s the one beauty or wellness treatment you can’t live without? And your favourite place to have it done?

I love to get my hair done at Fabianis in Mosman Park. They are like family I’ve been going there so long, and they’re all so good at what they do.

What’s your dream wellness vacay?

I’d love to go to India! I’m working on holding a Yoga Retreat there next March.

And lastly… do you have any top secret tips you use to keep looking / feeling great?

Be with the ones you love. With the emphasis on being – not trying to change them. Relationships are everything. When you love others, you can’t not look beautiful.

At our core we all want to feel love, and when you are loving, then you are loving.

What I mean by that is, when you are loving, (to others) then you are loving (you feel great.) You feel love inside you, which is always great 🙂
