First up, briefly tell us a bit about yourself and what you do!

My name is Beck and I am the founder of Pearth Organic Kitchen in West Leederville.

What time do you wake up most days and how many hours of sleep do you aim for?

On days I work at the café I am up at 5AM. On my mornings off I always tell my fiancé “I am sleeping in” which to his frustration means around 7AM. I aim for around 8 hours per night.

What’s your morning routine to set you up for a great day?

I always start with a few glasses of water and a quick foam roll to release my muscles, focusing on any areas that are sore from the day. I then pop on the kettle and brew a cacao tea for the road. I take the time to apply skincare and rug-up in something warm before heading out the door. I obsessed with routines and efficiency so my morning routine is like clock-work.

Describe a typical day of eating for you.

The benefit of having a café is knowing the perfect brew will be waiting for you when you arrive at work! I usually opt for a long mac with fresh, locally made hemp milk (from Refresh Juice!) which is my favorite milk we recently introduced to our menu at Pearth. I aim to fast for around 14 hours before tucking in to breaky. My body has responded really well to this break between meals improving my digestion and energy.
My breaky is very similar each day (like I said, creature of habit).

I love a warm porridge in winter and at Pearth we change our flavor regularly. My favorite is our Strawberry & Coconut Cream porridge which I love to top with cacao nibs and a healthy drizzle of tahini. I eat a lot of good fats in the morning to give me enough energy to serve all of our lovely customers through the busy lunch rush. Once our customers have tucked-in I will take the time to sit down and enjoy a Macro Bowl (preferably at a table in the sun). The Macro Bowl has been my favorite menu item since day one, I never tire of it!

In the afternoon I will snack on a peanut-butter raw ball to give me some energy for my pilates class. Dinner is leftovers from work which usually involve a stuffed eggplant or gluten-free pizza with a side salad.

Tell us about your daily beauty routine! What are your non-negotiables for looking and feeling your best?.

I am skincare obsessed so taking care of my skin means I don’t feel the need to wear much make-up. Also, when you get up at 5am there is very little motivation to spend precious time applying lipstick & liner. My current skin-care faves are:

Omorovicza Cleansing Foam – contains healing minerals all the way from Budapest, fancy
Drunk Elephant Whipped Cream Moisturizer
Sunday Riley Luna Retinol Serum (retinol is amazing for anti-aging)
Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment

It doesn’t matter how early I rise or how late I get home I will always carry-out my skincare routine.

Do you take any supplements, vitamins or special wellness elixirs? If so, we’d love to know!

I will take a vegan probiotic tablet by Healthy Essentials each morning with breakfast. I also take a B12 supplement (whether you’re vegan or not, do it!)

If I am feeling like my body needs a reset (likely after a night of fun) I will drink a very simple smoothie with activated charcoal which acts as a strong detoxifier for your insides.

Do you have an evening wind-down ritual?

Absolutely! I live for my evening routine. I always make sure I have answered any work emails and cleaned my home before I start to wind-down for the night. Some key elements of my evenings involve turning off any ceiling lights and switching on a few lamps that emit warm light (something I learnt from a novel about Hygge). Dim lighting is so important to start the relaxation process. I will make myself a giant mug of tea (my favorite is Yogi Tea) and settle in to watch a few of my favorite YouTube channels or a stand-up comedy show on Netflix. In Winter I am never in bed without my hot water bottle. I’ll play a few chilled tunes by Zero 7 or Ziggy Alberts and then at 9.30PM call it a night.

What are your top 3 wellness non-negotiables?

Taking time to exercise in a way that is sustainable & enjoyable. I am obsessed with Xtend Barre which is a combo of Pilates and ballet. For me exercise needs to fit seamlessly into my routine. I recommend finding a studio or gym that is close to your home or work because the harder it is to get there, the less you will go.

Eating good food. I visit Pearth even on my days off because the chefs on my team are incredibly good at making healthy food taste delicious.

Taking time to myself. I spend a large chunk of my day chatting with my lovely customers. I am lucky to have a business that attracts the most amazing people, but I also know that as an introvert I really need time alone at the end of each day. It is the only way I am able to recharge and give myself fully to my work and the people in my life.

Your absolute favourite healthy cafe in Perth is?

Pearth, duh!

Best place to get a green juice or smoothie in your city?

Pearth’s Green Smoothie is the best. They contain half an avocado so they are super creamy & filling.

What’s your fitness routine & favourite way to get sweaty and where’s your go-to?

I go to Xtend Barre four times per week. I also go for one of two leisurely walks per week. Another epic spot is Lisa Burns Training Studio. She plays the best music and her classes have taught me how to isolate muscles I never knew I had!

If you could only wear one brand of activewear for the rest of your life it would be…

Lululemon. You can wash their pieces a hundred times and they still look fresh off the rack.

What beauty treatment / wellbeing activity would you love to try but haven’t got around to yet?

I would love to try a cacao ceremony. Any ceremony that involves a chocolatey drink & a bit of reflection I am all for!

If you could have the ultimate day of wellness & happiness in Perth what would it involve and where would you go?

I would wake without an alarm and head outside to the beach in front of our home. It would be sunny and there would be zero breeze. My fiancé Paul would have already picked up my morning coffee (what a man) so I would drink that on the beach. Breakfast would be prepared together at home and eaten at the table (not in front of my computer like a regular day).

I would head-off to a Barre class at my favorite studio, Xtend Barre in Floreat.

I would then head to Bar Botanik in North Perth and buy some lush house-plants to join my ever-growing plant family. The afternoon would involve lunch at Pearth & then an afternoon visit to Float Fremantle for a massage and float experience.

We would stay in Freo for the evening and enjoy dinner at The Raw Kitchen. Home by 8 with time for tea and tele.

*That was a cruel question because now any day that doesn’t play out like that will seem very mediocre!

What’s your dream wellness vacay?

I would love to head to Tulum, Mexico. It looks like a tropical paradise with tons of plant-based dining.

And lastly… do you have any top secret tips you use to keep looking / feeling great?

Enjoy the work you do. When I wake-up I am excited for the day ahead and it wouldn’t be this way had I not taken the time to reflect & recognize my previous work was not serving me. If your work doesn’t ignite passion or pride you should do something about it. After opening my business I realized just how much control I can have over my own life. My ‘secret tip’ to feeling great is realizing you have complete control over your happiness.
