Whether you’re looking for an adventurous start to your weekend, or perhaps something a little more relaxing, Brisbane has it covered! Take advantage of the Sunshine State capital’s great weather to get active outdoors and challenge yourself to try a new activity. If that doesn’t shake down your stress levels, you can float away all your troubles, before finishing the day with some delicious, Insta-worthy food.

Parkrun
New Farm

Set your alarm, get ready to lace up those trainers and head to the park! Parkrun is a free, timed 5km run that takes place in parks all over the world every Saturday morning. You don’t need to be an elite athlete or seasoned runner: Parkrun is open to all ages and abilities – all you need is your barcode (just register on the website beforehand) and you’re ready to go. Brisbane is home to several Parkrun events including one at New Farm, where a few hundred eager runners, walkers, dogs and kids in strollers kick-start their weekend with a jog or walk along the river to Teneriffe, before heading back to New Farm Park to enjoy a post-run coffee.

SoBa Pilates
New Farm

If you prefer a slightly less vigorous start to your day, you could instead try a Pilates class. A sequence of controlled movements, Pilates can help build total body flexibility, strength, control and endurance. Between their studios located in West End and New Farm, SoBa offers pilates, barre and yoga, as well as HIIT sessions. Try their Mat Pilates class for a fusion of strength and flexibility exercises that use resistance and body weight to improve your posture, tone muscles and reduce stress.

Mylk + Ko
New Farm

Replenish your energy post-workout with a delicious breakfast at the popular Mylk + Ko. This wholefood café with Scandi-style décor offers a seasonal array of healthy options ranging from smoothies to burgers. The menu also caters to those with special requirements, with plenty of gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan options available. A not-to-be-missed favourite are the açai bowls, with flavours such as lamington, Snickers and Ferrero. They also serve Allpress coffee, turmeric, matcha and mermaid lattes and freshly pressed juices.

Riverlife
Kangaroo Point

Make your way alongside the river to the iconic Story Bridge and take in the impressive CBD skyline as you cross over to Kangaroo Point. Continuing around the river you’ll find Riverlife Brisbane, located in the heritage-listed Kangaroo Point Naval Stores. If you’re feeling adventurous have a go at climbing or abseiling the Kangaroo Point cliffs; otherwise you can choose from a number of other slightly more tame (but still fun!) activities including kayaking, biking, rollerblading and stand-up paddleboarding.

Miss Bliss Wholefoods Kitchen
West End

After a morning of exercise and adventure you might be feeling ready for some lunch. Located in West End, Miss Bliss Wholefoods Kitchen serves up nourishing food for both herbivores and carnivores alike, as well as delicious smoothies, kombucha and local Hrvst St juices for those after something cool and refreshing. Their menu is free from refined sugar, additives and artificial substances, and you can eat with a good conscience: Miss Bliss supports organic and local produce as much as possible and also donates 20c from every coffee they sell to Paradise4Kids to help feed, clothe and educate children in third world countries.

The Float Space
West End

Spend the rest of your afternoon winding down with a float therapy session at The Float Space. Float therapy is a great way to switch off from the hectic outside world and can help improve wellbeing and sleep, and may help relieve chronic pain. By eliminating all sources of external stimulation, floating allows your mind and body to enter a state of complete relaxation. A float tank is filled with an Epsom salt-water solution that is heated to body temperature, with the water density helping your body to float.

Greenhouse Canteen & Bar
South Brisbane

Once you’ve floated yourself to bliss, finish your day at Greenhouse Canteen & Bar in South Brisbane for a quiet drink and a plant-based meal that tastes just as good as it looks. Already a popular favourite for vegan foodies on the Gold Coast, Greenhouse also opened a location earlier this year in South Brisbane. With a seasonal menu of both small eats and larger meals, the menu is also 100% gluten free so those with special requirements don’t have to miss out. The restaurant also specialises in botanical cocktails and serves sustainable, organic wines.
