Perth's Best Bowls

Smash your dinner plates because goodness is going to bowl you over this year!Current eating trends are all about creative one-dish meals served up in a bowl –  you know, the ridiculously photogenic ones that populate your Instagram feed every morning? They tote various monikers – protein bowls, nourish bowls, macro bowls, green bowls, Buddha bowls, broth bowls, quinoa bowls, globowls and breakfast bowls in the form of smoothie bowls, acai bowls and Banzai bowls….the list goes on! Now that these sneaky bowls are branching out from breakfast to claim lunch and dinner, too, they’re making an appearance on pretty much any healthy-leaning restaurant menu in Perth. Why? Because they’re not only delicious, but nutritious and can incorporate protein, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lip-smacking sauces into one all-round dish. We are seriously spoilt for choice with some epic businesses to check out around Perth. So here are some favourites amongst the Green Goodness Community, along with some of our own to boot. In no particular order:

Pixel Coffee Brewers - Leederville

Wowee!! What a combo. The Nourish Bowl was seriously good. Who doesn’t love bacon, eggs and avo as a combo on a bed of spinach? It was finished off with some broccoli, seeds and some sesame for good measure. I could hardly find the bottom of the bowl it was so filling and full of flavour. I can’t wait to head back to the funky Leederville hot spot to try a different combo.

NOOD - Leederville

So fresh and so clean. The best way to describe a smoothie bowl from the gals at NOOD 'your morning vitality boost'. I can’t get enough of green smoothies but the fresh fruit and special mix of granola is a winning fusion in the NOOD bowl. The NOOD team have recently opened a cafe in Leederville and are always popping up all around Perth so you can be sure to find the blenders whipping up a bowl nearby!

Add salmon or bacon too for a protein hit, but the real star of the show is the two perfectly poached eggs on top... The yolk oozing over all those crisp greens... Yum!" Oh my goodness, they don’t call it an Abundance bowl for nothing. Clean, lean and green with all the summer greens plus lupin tempeh & miso sesame sauce. BONUS: Recipe - Green Smoothie Bowl with Fresh Fruit and Coconut Yoghurt There is nothing better than a big bowl of thick, cold, green goodness for breakfast. The good fats in the avocado and the fibre and sugars from the banana will have you ready to bounce out into the day with energy that will last you until lunch time. And it only takes five minutes to make.  Ingredients:

  • 1 Banana (frozen)
  • Half an Avocado
  • 1 Kiwifruit
  • 2 handfuls of Spinach
  • 1 small piece of Ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of Spirulina powder
  • Juice of half a Lemon
  • Half a cup of Coconut water

Method: Place all the smoothie ingredients in a blender or thermomix and blend on high speed until smooth. If it’s too thick for your liking add a little extra coconut water. Pour it into a bowl and garnish with sliced fresh kiwifruit and strawberries, a dollop of coconut yoghurt, and sprinkle over a little shredded coconut and cacao nibs.
